Special issue! At the age of 10, Albert Kahn witnessed the eruption of the 1870 Franco-Prussian War in his region, Alsace. He was deeply marked by the event and struggled with a weighty question: what can we do to avoid wars breaking out?  

His answer? Learning about other peoples’ cultures could be the first step on the path to peace. 

At his home in Boulogne, he held meetings that brought together scientists, artists and thinkers from around the globe. Together, they talked and sought ideas to build a world without war.
